INTERPRETATIONS ON SUSTAINABILITY
ABOUT THE CITY
This city is located in the Santa Clara County in southern California, and presents a wonderful expansion of the city as the silicon boom came into being.
Geographically, it is at a crossroads between the san Francisco Bay and the mountains that reach the sea. However, due to the ongoing encroachment of wildfires, drought and overall urban expansion, the climate change risk presents an ever present risk of the entire ecosystem being irreparably harmed.
But the city has some interesting strategies to fix the direction that their ship is heading in towards a green future.
CULTURE OF THE CITY
Founded in 1850 as the first capital of California, after being settled decades earlier by Spanish and indigenous settlers, the city has grown from a small agrarian community into one of the largest cities in the united states and fastest growing economies in the world.
We are proud of our roots, and our lively community is one of the most diverse and integrated of the state. Roughly a third of the community is Hispanic, another third of Asian Descent or Origin, and the remaining population of white, African American and other proud Americans.
As the capital of silicon valley, we also house one of the most robust technology industries in the world with over 58, 000 businesses, supporting over 400,000 employees, based on the city’s Office of Economic Development. . Our entrepreneurial ability, innovation, and culture of success all goes back to our humble beginnings, acting as the roots for our future.
NINE SMART STRATEGIES OF CLIMATE SMART SAN JOSE
Creating a new strategy for the community of san Jose to reconfigure sustainability towards people and giving them a livable environment. They have a series of ambitious goals set over 15 years. Ultimately it was replaced by the Climate Smart San Jose. The adoption of this act in the last few years has made it one of the first major cities taking strides towards sustainability in lowered emission, greater energy efficiency, and clean water. The most ambitious can be seen in a pamphlet called “Pathway to Carbon Neutrality by 2030,” which focuses on how to create a economical and ecologically sustainable society.
This overall goal for the city is one of the most prime example for how other cities can set societal goals that garner a better direction for the world, rather than their immediate benefit.
the envi services department of San Jose
A sustainable picture of adaptive reuse, the ESD {environmental services Department) made a municipal storage building into a clean tech startup center known as the EIC. It has won multiple awards including the 2015 site design award and special waste management from various associations. Make it stand out.
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
